Learning to type in Cebuano
Cebuano is written in the Latin alphabet. Every practice word here stays inside it: 26 letter keys and nothing beyond them.
There is no mapping problem in Cebuano. The alphabet is the one printed on your keyboard, the practice words draw on 19 distinct characters, and every one of them is a key your fingers can already find by accident. What is left is the harder half of touch typing: doing it without checking.
Speed in Cebuano comes from prediction more than from finger speed: a familiar word is one motion, an unfamiliar one is a letter at a time. Drilling common words trains the shapes the language repeats, and "a" is the character you will press most.
Not all keys are worth the same. Ten characters carry around 80% of everything you will type in these Cebuano drills, and the remaining 9 share what is left. That is why the course introduces its material a little at a time rather than all at once: the early characters do a disproportionate amount of the work.
Nine stages take you from the home row outwards, adding a few keys at a time and drilling them as sequences rather than as words — the point at this stage is the position, not the vocabulary. Each stage holds several drills, and each drill wants three clean passes before it counts — by default, and Settings will change it: not three attempts, three clean ones. Slower at the start, considerably faster by the middle.

Cebuano has roughly as many native speakers as Tagalog and far less official standing, being the dominant language of the Visayas and much of Mindanao while Filipino is the national language.
It uses the Latin alphabet with no diacritics in ordinary writing, so a standard keyboard is sufficient. Spelling has never been as tightly standardised as Filipino's, and variation between sources is common — particularly around whether to write borrowed Spanish words in Spanish or respelled form.
Cebuano and Tagalog are related but not mutually intelligible, which is a recurring point of friction in Philippine language policy and irrelevant to your fingers.
Questions about typing in Cebuano
Do I need a Cebuano keyboard?
No — and no layout change either. Cebuano spells its 92 most common words entirely from a-z, so whatever keyboard you are reading this on is already a Cebuano keyboard.
How long does learning to touch type in Cebuano take?
Longer than a week and shorter than you fear — and it depends far more on how often you practise than on how long each session runs. Short daily sessions beat long weekly ones by a wide margin, because what you are building is recall and recall decays between sessions. The streak counter exists for that reason.
Can I skip ahead to a later stage?
Yes, nothing is locked. It is usually a mistake, though, because each stage assumes the keys before it have stopped needing thought — and a stage practised on top of a shaky one tends to embed the shakiness rather than fix it.
Why does a drill need three clean passes?
Because one correct attempt proves you can do it and three prove you can repeat it, which is the thing that eventually becomes automatic. Attempts with mistakes in them do not count towards the three — not as a punishment, but because practising an error is how an error becomes a habit. Three is the default rather than a rule: Settings will take it down to one or up to ten.
Which Cebuano keyboard layout do these lessons use?
Latin QWERTY family. The 92 practice words between them use 19 of those 26, so 7 characters never come up in the practice text — these are the commonest words rather than an even sweep of the layout. What will I actually be typing in Cebuano?
Sequences of the keys each stage has introduced — single letters first, then pairs, then short chunks — written in the Latin QWERTY family layout. The point of the course is the position of a key rather than the vocabulary. The 92 common Cebuano words in the practice bank are what the speed test samples and what the games pull from, once the positions stop needing thought.
Is Cebuano hard to type?
No — Cebuano is about as gentle an introduction to touch typing as exists. No accents, no layout change, a fairly compact inventory of 19 characters across the practice bank, and every key already under your fingers. Whatever difficulty you meet is the difficulty of touch typing itself, not of this language.
