Testing your Assamese typing speed
Assamese is written in the Bengali script, whose marks combine with base letters into single written units — so one keystroke is not one character on screen.
Pick a duration or a word count, turn punctuation and digits on if you want them, and type 22 common Assamese words in whatever order the shuffle produces. Because the words come fresh each run there is nothing to learn by repetition — a second attempt measures you, not your memory. Afterwards: net WPM, accuracy, a consistency figure and the keys you missed most.
The thing that surprises people about Assamese is the arithmetic. A word that looks like 2.3 units on screen took more keystrokes than that, because Bengali vowel signs and conjunct forms are typed as separate presses and then rendered together. Accuracy matters more than usual here: an error inside a cluster is not always visible at a glance.
Frequency beats duration in Assamese by a wider margin than in most languages, because what you are building is a composing order and composing orders decay quickly between sessions. Ten minutes daily will take you further than an hour on Sunday.

Assamese is written in a script nearly identical to Bengali, and the two are usually treated as one script — Bengali-Assamese — in encoding standards.
Two letters distinguish it: ৰ for the r sound and ৱ for the w sound, where Bengali uses different characters. They are small differences that matter constantly, because both sounds are common.
Assamese was recognised as a classical language of India in 2024. It is typed on the InScript layout, and an Assamese typist can read Bengali text and vice versa with very little adjustment.

Because you are doing two things at once: finding the key and recalling what it writes. Speed in a script you have typed for years is one motion; speed in a new one is a lookup followed by a motion. The lookup is what disappears with practice, and when it does the gap closes faster than most people expect.
Is the Assamese typing test the same every time?
