Practising Punjabi with games
Punjabi is written in the Gurmukhi script, whose marks combine with base letters into single written units — so one keystroke is not one character on screen.
The thing that surprises people about Punjabi is the arithmetic. A word that looks like 2.2 units on screen took more keystrokes than that, because Gurmukhi vowel signs and conjunct forms are typed as separate presses and then rendered together. Accuracy matters more than usual here: an error inside a cluster is not always visible at a glance.
Worth knowing before you start: these 44 words use 41 distinct characters, and the effort is not spread evenly across them. Ten of them do roughly 51% of the work, so the first week of practice buys far more than the tenth will. That is the normal shape of it, not a sign of a plateau.
The three games differ in what they pressure. One drops words you must finish before they land, one puts characters on a moving orbit, and one hands you a clock that shrinks every time you succeed. All three run on 44 common Punjabi words, and all three level up every four clean hits and never level down.
Watch what you have written rather than what you are pressing. In Punjabi a cluster only resolves once the last mark is in, so the screen is the only honest feedback on whether the keystroke order was right. Punjabi in India is written in Gurmukhi, the script these lessons teach, which was standardised in the sixteenth century by Guru Angad and is used for Sikh scripture. In Pakistan, Punjabi is written in Shahmukhi, an Arabic-derived script.
The two are not mutually readable, which means the largest language in Pakistan and one of the largest in India share a name, a grammar and very little written text. Conversion tools exist and are imperfect, particularly because Shahmukhi does not mark vowels as fully as Gurmukhi does.
Punjabi is tonal, which is unusual for an Indo-Aryan language. Gurmukhi marks the tones through particular consonant letters rather than with diacritics, so the tone is carried by spelling.

Do games help, or are they just a break?
Both, honestly. They will not teach you a key you have never drilled, and they are very good at exposing which keys you only think you know — under time pressure the shaky ones fail first. Treat them as a diagnostic and the lessons as the fix.
